Xciii. the Biuret Method of Estimating Albumin and Globulin in Serum
نویسنده
چکیده
QUANTITATIVE determinations of serum and urinary proteins are of considerable clinical importance; that such estimations are made relatively infrequently is probably due to the lack of a simple yet trustworthy technique. The methods of Esbach and Aufrecht are notoriously crude, while the gravimetric and the Kjeldahl methods are too laborious for ordinary clinical purposes. Of the colorimetric procedures the biuret method and that of Wu [1922] are both reliable, the error usually not exceeding 5 % in experienced hands. The latter however has the disadvantage that the calculations are somewhat involved, and it is moreover more lengthy than the biuret method modified as described below.

Serum protein analysis by electrophoresis and by the Wolfson-Cohn chemical method; comparative study.
ONSIDERABLE TIME AND EFFORT has been devoted to the problem of fractionating serum protein simply, reliably, and rapidly, and at the same time in conformity with the free electrophoretic separation into albumin and a-, fi-, and 7-globulins. Much progress has been made, but discrepancies remain, especially in connection with aand -gIobulins. A few years ago Wolfson, Cohn, et at. (1) devised a re...

Electrophoresis is a meticulous method in para-clinical science but has received less attention. In this study, the protein profile of synovial fluid of carpal joint and blood serum in buffalo was detected. Sampling was performed by arthrocentesis of 80 left and right forelimbs and obtaining blood serums of 40 Bubalus bubalis in Ahvaz industrial slaughterhouse. Samples were str...
متن کاملAn improved method for determination of serum albumin and globulin.
A simple and reliable method has been developed for the analysis of serum proteins. Globulins are precipitated from serum with HCI-ethanol. The albumin remains in the supernatant fluid. The albumin fraction is then precipitated by alcoholic sodium acetate. The proteins are redissolved and determined colorimetrically following their reaction with the biuret reagent. Recovery and electrophoretic ...
متن کاملFour methods for determining total protein compared by using purified protein fractions from human serum.
The proportional bias of four methods frequently used for determining low concentrations of protein was evaluated with human serum protein fractions (Cohn Fractions II, III, IV, and V). Each fraction was assigned a protein concentration value as determined by the biuret method, calibrated with purified human serum albumin monomer. All four methods (Coomassie Brilliant Blue dye-binding, the meth...
متن کاملThe serum viscosity and the serum proteins.
Equal weights of the various protein fractions in plasma affect the plasma specific gravity equally, whereas weight for weight the fractions exert differing influences on the plasma viscosity. Thus fibrinogen has a greater effect on the plasma viscosity than does globulin, which, in turn, has a greater effect than albumin (Bircher, 1921 ; Naegeli, 1931; Oberst, 1939; Cowan and Harkness, 1947). ...
